Everything we sell is sourced directly from Japan, imported legally, and carries the same provenance as materials used in Japan itself. All pricing is inquiry-only — every project is custom.
Kumamoto igusa grass · Hand-stitched by Nishiwaki Kazuhiro · Custom-sized
The only commercially available, hand-stitched tatami in India. Made from igusa grass grown and harvested in Kumamoto Prefecture — Japan's primary tatami-producing region — and hand-stitched by Nishiwaki Kazuhiro, a master artisan.
Machine-stitched tatami — which is what most commercial alternatives offer — produces a fundamentally different result. The hand-stitching process creates more consistent tension, better durability, and a finish that cannot be replicated by machine.
Kumamoto Prefecture produces the finest igusa grass in Japan. The specific soil, climate, and growing techniques result in strands with better density, scent, and colour consistency. Not all igusa is equal.
We can trace every mat to its source. Our import chain is documented and compliant with both Japanese export and Indian import regulations. This matters for institutional clients, and it matters for quality assurance.
Tatami mats come in standard Japanese sizes (kyōma, edoma, etc.) but Indian rooms rarely match. We custom-size every mat to your floor dimensions — something that requires the hand-stitching capability we have.
We are working to bring more authentic Japanese products to India. These are in pipeline:
Traditional Japanese washi paper for shoji screens. Translucent, diffuses light beautifully, and transforms any partition into a Japanese element.
In developmentTraditional Japanese paper lanterns. Low, warm, and deeply calming. The right lighting can transform an ordinary room as much as the flooring.
In developmentWe are working toward offering a complete Japanese space — every material, every element, sourced authentically from Japan and available in India.
